In Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, the Benue State Police Command has detained two robbery suspects.

The accused, Sapele Great and Hakem Adi, who were reportedly students at Joseph Sawuan Tarka University in Makurdi (formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture), were apprehended by a squad of detectives on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

In a statement released by Catherine Anene, the State Command Public Relations Officer, it was claimed that the suspects had allegedly entered into a home in New GRA, Makurdi, in the early days of April and fled with debit cards, phones, and other items.

Anene said;

“The robbers transferred N300,000 from the victim’s accounts using the stolen ATM cards.

“The Commissioner of Police deployed a team of detectives to trail and arrest the suspects but the suspects, who knew that they were being trailed, took to their heels until June 15, 2022, when two of the suspects; Sapele Great and Hakem Adi of different addresses in Makurdi were arrested.

According to a spokesperson for the command, items taken from the suspects included a locally made pistol with nine rounds of live 6mm ammunition, eight phones suspected of having been stolen, an electronic stun gun, 18 SIM cards from various networks, a United Bank for Africa checkbook allegedly belonging to Agasha Philemon Assume, and other electronic devices suspected of being used in internet fraud.
